Cane Corso Bello's Owner Dumped Him & Drove Away
Cane Corso Bello is just one of many young dogs affected by banned breed legislation in Turkey. With the introduction of the law, numerous dogs were mistakenly identified as breeds on the banned list, even though they weren't. Bello was one of them.
Banned Breed Legislation was challenging for low-income earners who struggled to meet the licensing conditions required to keep their beloved pets.
Sadly, this led to a significant number of dogs being abandoned on the streets, as their owners were unable to comply with the new regulations.
Tragically, even dogs like Bello who were not on the banned breed list.
Bello's story begins with heartbreak when he was abandoned at the side of the road.
The thought of how he must have felt as his owner drove away is truly upsetting.
For days, Bello was inconsolable, his pitiful whining a constant reminder of his distress.
With no one willing to take him in, he found refuge in a place at the shelter project, where he was assured safety and care. Here, all his needs were met, and there was hope that one day, Bello would find a loving home where he would be cherished.
While waiting for a spot to open up for him at the shelter project Bello was placed in a temporary shelter.
Despite the uncertainty of his situation, Bello's friendly and sociable nature shone through. He quickly made friends with all the other dogs, including Carlito, and could often be seen playing and interacting with them.
It was good to know that he was a gentle giant, a lover not a fighter with not one bad bone in his body.
When the shelter manager was assessing Bello, she noticed that he had a weepy eye, with a small amount of discharge visible.
She reported this, and we authorized a visit to the vet.
Additionally, Bello needed to be neutered. As best practice, all dogs at the shelter project are spayed and neutered.
Bello had an unfortunate condition called entropion eye.
It is characterized by the inward rolling of the eyelid. This inward movement causes the eyelashes and surrounding fur to come into contact with the cornea and eyeball, resulting in irritation.
He needed to have surgery to correct it.
Bello had a swift recovery from the surgery and was soon discharged to a private kennel.
During his stay, the shelter manager took care of administering eye drops as per the veterinarian's instructions, ensuring that Bello healed completely.
Bello, our gentle giant, remains at the shelter, holding onto the hope that his forever family will come along.
The current adoption bans and restrictions in Turkey make it challenging to find homes for dogs like him.
Yet, we remain optimistic, never losing faith that one day, someone special will open their heart and home to our beloved big softie, offering him the love and companionship he deserves.
