Suspect arrested in serial burning attacks on community cats
Police in Daejeon arrested a man in his 70s over repeated abuse of community cats.
Two cats were found in February with severe burns to their heads, and from July 2025 to March 2026 a total of seven cats were found badly burned in the same commercial parking area.
Several were so badly injured they died or had to be euthanised. Police said the suspect partially admitted the offences and they were preparing a detention warrant.

Five dogs removed from a circus in Chhattisgarh
Five dogs were taken from a circus in Sakti district after video showed Indian Spitz dogs being used in performance acts.
The circus lacked the required performing animals registration certificate under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The footage showed dogs positioned on plastic chairs in the arena and, according to the article, four were made to walk on their hind legs in formation. The dogs were handed over for rehabilitation and adoption.

Mass rescues are rising as owners become overwhelmed
There is a rise in large-scale rescues in England and Wales to the cost-of-living crisis and worsening mental health pressures.
The RSPCA dealt with 75 incidents in 2025 involving 100 or more animals at one property. They highlighted the rescue of more than 250 poodle-cross dogs from one property, plus other recent cases involving horses, donkeys, alpacas and cats, and said the charity was at a six-year high in animals in care, with many in emergency boarding because centres were full.

Farmer investigated after dozens of sheep found dead and others in agony
Spain’s Guardia Civil was investigating a 43-year-old farmer in Salamanca for animal abuse and abandonment after officers found at least 60 dead sheep and lambs across two properties.
The article said only 260 animals were alive out of 568 registered, and that surviving sheep and lambs were found in deficient sanitary and feeding conditions, with some ill, trapped in fencing, or in agony.
