Gul’s Second Bloom: From Forest Shadows to Sunshine
Found in the Forest
When Gul was first discovered in a remote forest in Bursa, she was a heart breaking sight — thin, weak, and tangled in a cruelly tight rope that had left deep impressions in her neck.
No one knows exactly how she ended up there. Perhaps she had been abandoned by a family who didn’t care, or perhaps she had been relocated by local authorities after complaints — a fate far too common for stray dogs at that time.
A Gentle Soul in Need
The moment help arrived, Gul welcomed it with quiet trust. Despite her suffering — a severe head wound, mange stripping away her fur, and a stomach empty for far too long — she allowed a makeshift lead to be tied around her and climbed into the car without hesitation. She was used to people. She still believed in kindness.
The Long Road to Healing
Her condition told the story of her struggle. Starvation had driven her to eat soil just to quiet her hunger pangs. Mange had left her skin raw and itchy. But with gentle care, medical treatment, and nourishing food, Gul began to heal.
Her head wound closed.
Her fur grew back.
She gained weight and energy.
Soon, she was bounding through the garden, her glossy coat catching the sunlight and her eyes sparkling with mischief and joy. Gul had transformed into the dog she was always meant to be — vibrant, loving, and full of life.
A New Challenge Ahead
Gul faced another turning point recently. Her sponsor could no longer support her, leaving her future uncertain. Without help, she would lose the safety and happiness she has fought so hard to find.
She has a place in our new Ankara initiative — a programme designed to give dogs like her a safe, stable life. The sanctuary project is a lifesaving initiative in a beautiful environment but it doesn’t come cheap.
