Papatya Was Broken By The Beatings She Received On The Streets
Papatya is an old lady who has endured a lifetime of hardship.
Born on the streets, she experienced unimaginable abuse.
In Turkey, stray dogs are often viewed as pests, and there are heartless individuals who treat them with extreme cruelty.
Papatya was often the victim of such brutality, suffering numerous beatings.
There was a particularly harrowing incident when she was struck with a stick with such force that it broke.
Papatya was taken to the veterinary clinic where she received much-needed treatment for her injuries.
The veterinarians showed great kindness by providing her with a soft muzzle & muslin instead of a basket muzzle, which could have frightened her even more.
Although they were reluctant to muzzle her, they understood it was necessary.
A scared dog in pain is at risk of biting, and ensuring her safety, as well as that of the staff, was of utmost importance.
Papatya's first sips of water on her own were a welcoming sight.
Any return to normal activities from a traumatized dog gives everyone hope that they will recover from their ordeal.
Watching her regain her confidence with each cautious sip was a heart warming moment.
It reminded everyone of the resilience and strength that can emerge even after the most challenging experiences.
Her small victory was not just a step towards recovery for Papatya, but also a beacon of hope for her caretakers, reinforcing their belief in the power of patience and love in healing.
Papatya's initial meals were designed to be gentle on her digestive system, supporting her gradual recovery.
As her strength steadily returned, her diet transitioned back to its normal state.
This careful approach ensured that Papatya could regain her health without overwhelming her system, allowing her to rebuild her energy and vitality over time.
Recognizing Papatya's need for love and kindness from people and ensuring she wasn't overshadowed by the cruelty she had previously experienced, the vets decided to move her out of the patient area.
They placed her in a setting where she could observe the staff as they carried out their duties.
Each person would pause to offer her some kind words and gentle voices, creating an environment filled with compassion and care.
The day Papatya managed to stand up on her own and take a few tentative steps was a deeply emotional moment for those who had been caring for her.
It marked the first true sign that she was on the path to recovery, suggesting that she wouldn't succumb to despair.
This small yet significant achievement fuelled the hope that she would eventually reclaim her previous self—a confident and joyful dog, untouched by the trauma of her past.
Each day, she seemed to gain a little more strength, both physically and emotionally. While the clamour of loud noises and the presence of unfamiliar faces often stirred a sense of anxiety within her, there was an undeniable change taking place.
Her spirit was evolving, and it was clear to everyone around her that her confidence was starting to grow.
Eventually, Papatya was well enough to move out of the clinic.
She settled in to her new environment with ease thankfully. The boarding house, with gentle atmosphere, became her safe haven.
She bonded with the small group of dogs around her.
These companions, a little older and slower, mirrored her own pace, and together they formed an unspoken understanding & comfort in each others company.
Papatya's situation has become critical again as her sponsor can no longer support her, putting her in danger once again.
Ensuring her safety is imperative.
We have launched a new initiative in Ankara, which you can learn more about, and we are eager to include Papatya in this program for her protection.
Currently, we lack the necessary funding for her spot, but starting in June, I will be organizing regular fundraising efforts on her behalf.
If you can, please consider sponsoring her from just £5 per month.
