Puppy Maggie Needed To See A Vet Urgently
Maggie is a 4-month-old Staffy mix who needed our assistance when she developed cherry eye.
This is a painful condition that appears as a red, swollen mass on the lower eyelid near the nose or muzzle, resembling a cherry.
The cherry eye can be large, covering a significant portion of the cornea, or it might be small and only appear periodically.
Maggie’s cherry eye was large & causing her a significant amount of discomfort. She needed to see a vet as soon as possible
Maggie's situation was challenging, as she faced a health issue without the security of insurance, which left her and her family unable to cover the immediate expenses required for her surgery.
Fortunately, while her local veterinary surgery couldn't offer the necessary assistance, hope was not lost. In the nearest town, a compassionate vet stepped forward, offering a help.
This gesture of kindness provided a much-needed solution, ensuring Maggie could receive the care she desperately needed right away.
Maggie's dad doesn't own a car, so transporting her to the nearest town, which is thirty minutes away by car, posed a difficulty.
Thankfully, one of our directors kindly volunteered to give her a ride.
Maggie was so well-behaved upon arriving at the veterinarian's office, enthusiastically wagging her tail as she entered and complying with all the vet's instructions.
The vet attempted to manually reposition the "cherry," a technique that sometimes proves effective, but unfortunately, it didn't work in this instance.
Maggie was scheduled to return to the vet for surgery to address her condition.
The arrangements were made for later in the week, and once again, our director was more than willing to accompany her.
Maggie's trip to the vet turned out to be a delightful experience for her.
She was showered with lots of fuss and attention, which helped keep any worries or fears at bay.
Maggie was overjoyed with all the affection and care she received from the vets.
However, the one thing she wasn't too thrilled about was the cone!
Exhausted from her adventure, Maggie slept deeply throughout the journey back.
The soothing rhythm of the car lulled her into a peaceful slumber.
Without the crucial intervention of Dog Desk Animal Action, it’s difficult to envision the predicament Maggie’s family might have been left in.
The realization that even the most well-thought-out plans can be upended by unexpected events is certainly distressing, leaving individuals suffering unnecessary stress.
Fortunately, with support from us and the veterinarians, Maggie's family were able to obtain the help they needed to ensure Maggie received prompt care exactly when she needed it with no delays.
