Saving AL

Al's situation was concerning, as it was reported that he was unable to eat.

Each attempt to do so resulted in him crying out in pain.

Despite being started on a course of antibiotics, there was no improvement. I noticed a tiny bit of pus around his lower jaw confirming the infection but was troubled as to why the antibiotics were not working.

Given the severity of the issue, we decided to send him to our vet for a comprehensive health check, with particular attention to investigating the problems affecting his mouth.

AL underwent a comprehensive examination, which included blood work and other diagnostic tests to assess his health status.

The results revealed that he was suffering from anaplasmosis and ehrlichiosis, in addition to having dental abscesses.

Treatment for AL's anaplasmosis and ehrlichiosis began immediately, alongside care for his abscesses.

It was incredibly heartening to witness him able to handle a bit of food once he felt more at comfortable.

After the abscesses were resolved, AL underwent sedation to have all the plaque meticulously removed from his teeth.

Although he experienced minor discomfort shortly after the procedure, it quickly faded.

Addressing oral health issues in stray animals is crucial because these problems can severely impact their ability to eat, leading to weight loss and, in some cases, even death.

Therefore, it was incredibly fulfilling to assist AL with his dental problems.

By addressing these issues, we were able to improve his overall well-being and help him regain his health.

It is vital to continue supporting strays in this way, ensuring they have the opportunity to lead healthier lives.
