Saving Bella
Bella is a little stray dog whose story needs to be told. She was discovered by a community carer after a hit-and-run incident left her injured. The carer immediately took her to a clinic to get the necessary treatment.
Much later, the shelter manager received a report about a stray dog in terrible condition. It was Bella.
Both of Bella's back legs were severely damaged, a mangled mix of flesh and bones that she was dragging behind her. She had been run over again.
The injuries were incredibly severe, and it's nothing short of a miracle that she survived.
Sadly Bella’s legs were beyond saving
Despite the initial challenges following her double amputation, she demonstrated incredible resilience and adaptability. The post-operative period required intensive care and attention, but Bella's spirit remained unbroken. As she healed, her determination to regain her mobility became evident.
We carefully evaluated her needs and decided on a custom wheelchair to support her during walks. Initially, Bella was hesitant, needing some time to adjust to her new set of wheels. Her tenacity shone through, and with patience and encouragement, she gradually began to embrace her newfound freedom.
Soon enough, Bella was racing around with a newfound zest for life, her speed and agility with the wheelchair astonishing everyone who witnessed her progress. Her story serves as an inspiring reminder of the resilience and adaptability of animals, showcasing how, with the right support and love, they can overcome even the most daunting challenges.
Just when everything seemed to be going smoothly, we faced an unexpected challenge.
During her spay procedure, our vet discovered some troubling lesions on her bladder.
The news that a biopsy was needed hit us hard; it felt like a step back after all the progress she had made.
We were on edge, fearing the worst. Thankfully, the results came back benign, and relief washed over us. We could finally breathe again, grateful for Bella's continued health.
Bella faced challenges with being doubly incontinent, which meant she required significant one-on-one care to ensure her well-being and happiness.
A decision was made for her to live with the shelter manager, where, with the support of family members, she could receive the dedicated attention she needed.
Bella eventually passed away from natural causes.
Her journey through life was a testament to resilience and joy.
Despite the hurdles she encountered, she maintained a spirit full of happiness and an unwavering zest for life.
Her ability to navigate challenges gracefully was truly inspiring.
We feel a deep sense of gratitude for having had the privilege to know her and to contribute to the life she so richly deserved.
Bella's memory will always remind us of the beauty of living fully and the joy of overcoming obstacles with grace.
