Saving Eddie The Eagle
Eddie the Eagle, a mixed shepherd dog, likely has a history as a working dog, as suggested by his illegally cropped ears.
When Eddie was found, he was bravely enduring the pain of a swollen leg that required immediate medical care.
Eddie had a compound fracture which is indeed a serious concern due to the heightened risk of infection.
When the bone pierces through the skin, it creates an open wound that can easily become contaminated by bacteria.
When dogs are straying with these kind of problems it is not unusual for them to present with existing infection when they arrive at the clinic.
Although the exact cause of the break is unknown, such injuries often occur when a car strikes a dog crossing the street.
Our veterinarians promptly performed surgery, inserting a plate in Eddie's leg to facilitate the healing process.
Eddie was up and about quite soon after surgery. It's always challenging for us to witness them trying to move on a very sore leg post-surgery, but it's crucial for recovery.
Gentle movement promotes blood flow, which aids in the healing process.
Each day, Eddie displayed remarkable courage as he pushed himself a little further, determined to regain full use of his limb.
Despite the challenges he faced, Eddie's perseverance was unwavering.
The removal of Eddie’s cone marked a significant milestone in his healing process, allowing him to transition to a side room where he could continue to recuperate.
Without the invaluable services provided by the clinic, Eddie's story might have had a different ending.
We are incredibly thankful to everyone who contributes to our mission, ensuring animals like Eddie have a chance at a better life. Your support makes all the difference. Thank you!
