Saving Georgie, The Best Mum In The World
In 2022, Turkey's banned breed legislation came into effect, prohibiting the breeding, sale, and transfer of the Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro.
Owners of these dogs were required to register, neuter, and ensure their pets were both muzzled and leashed in public spaces.
This legislation led to widespread distress, as many people abandoned their dogs, leaving them to fend for themselves.
In the chaos, even dogs that did not meet the banned criteria, such as Boxers, were mistakenly considered prohibited.
Amidst this turmoil, we learned about a female dog that matched the banned type, found abandoned at a rubbish dump with her puppies.
Tragically, in a short span of time, all the male puppies were taken, leaving behind two vulnerable females. These dogs needed urgent relocation to a safe haven, as they were being actively pursued by authorities with the threat of being shot upon confiscation.
In addition to rescuing Georgie and her pups, we discovered three golden puppies living alongside them in the rubbish dump.
Concerned for their wellbeing, we arranged for them to be brought to the safety of the shelter as well.
Our priority was ensuring all they all could find a more secure and loving environment.
This little blended family settled in well to the shelter, and to our delight, Georgie took the golden puppies on as her own.
She nurtured them lovingly alongside her daughters, Cara and Sophie.
It was heart warming to see how naturally Georgie embraced her new role, providing comfort and care to the little ones who needed it most. The bond they formed was truly special, a testament to the power of love and acceptance in the most unexpected situations.
We couldn't help but think how much Georgie thought that caring for the golden puppies was a natural thing to do, would humans reach this conclusion so quickly?
As the puppies grew the bond between them became stronger with each passing day.
It didn't matter to them that we were thrown together by unfortunate circumstances.
They were family no matter what
Giving toys to the pups was such a joyful experience. They were incredibly careful with their new playthings, showing a surprising amount of gentleness.
We introduced them to small plastic balls, which quickly became their favourite.
Even after two years, the toys were still in great condition, a testament to the pups careful play and the joy these simple toys brought to their daily routine.
Its very sad that Georgie, Cara & Sophie will never be able to have a home of their own, but I am grateful for the shelter & the comfort it brings them.
They are well looked after & they are happy & at the end of the day that’s all that counts
