Stop the Cruelty: Scan Before You Seize
Municipal workers in Turkey are rounding up dogs — including family pets — and dragging them to shelters.
This is not just cruel, it is unnecessary. There is a simple safeguard that could prevent it: microchip scanning.
Microchips Exist to Protect Dogs
Families do the right thing. They pay for microchipping & they register their dogs to keep them safe.
A scan takes seconds and tells you instantly if a dog already has a home.
Yet municipalities are skipping this step entirely. Why?
No Excuse
Scanners are cheap.
They are easy to use.
They save lives and prevent suffering.
So why aren’t they being used?
Because municipalities don’t prioritise reuniting dogs with their families. Their goal is removal, not protection.
The Cost of Neglect
Every day, dogs with families are locked in shelters when they should be safe at home. Children cry for missing companions. Guardians search in vain. Dogs grow sick and afraid in overcrowded kennels.
Or worse still they are never seen again.
All of this could be avoided with one simple scan.
Our Demand
Every municipal worker handling dogs must carry a scanner.
Scanning must be mandatory before transport.
Dogs with chips must go straight home, not to a shelter.
Hold Them Accountable
Microchips only work if municipalities play their part. Right now, they are failing and dogs and families are paying the price. It’s time to demand change.
