In a distressing incident that has shocked animal lovers across Turkey and beyond, a young dog in Ankara’s Yenimahalle district was cruelly tied to the back of a moving truck and dragged for metres along the road. The shocking footage, widely shared on social media, stirred outrage and prompted immediate action by bystanders and authorities
A Harrowing Rescue
On the afternoon of 6 February 2026, citizens noticed a dog being dragged behind a truck, its neck bound with a rope attached to the vehicle. Citizens stopped the vehicle and immediately called the police and animal welfare teams.
Police responded quickly, alongside veterinary teams who took the injured animal under their care. Meanwhile, local residents expressed visible anger toward the driver, who was detained on the spot.
Injuries and Immediate Care
Veterinarians revealed that the dog, approximately seven months old, arrived at the animal shelter in critical condition. Doctors noted that the young dog was at serious risk of internal bleeding. In addition, he suffered:
Head trauma
Jaw damage
Soft tissue injuries
Multiple infected wounds
Despite the severity of the injuries, veterinary staff described the dog as affectionate and resilient, a testament to the courage of animals even after suffering grave cruelty.
A Ray of Hope: Adoption by a Public Figure
In an inspiring turn of events amid the distress, Turkish singer and television personality Seren Serengil announced that she would adopt the dog once it completes treatment. Serengil spoke out strongly against animal cruelty, noting how harmful such scenes can be especially when children see them and internalise the message that violence toward animals is acceptable.
She advocated for more deterrent-level penalties for animal abusers. Her support ensures that this dog will not only survive but have the chance at a loving future, a contrast to the violence endured
Police Action and Investigation
The driver, identified in reports as S.E., was taken into custody following the incident and is expected to be referred to the courthouse after police procedures are completed.
Authorities confirmed that an investigation is ongoing under animal protection laws and stated that additional inspections will be carried out in an effort to prevent further violence against animals.

This is just awful! What is it with humans that they can even think to behave this way. Do unto others as you would have done to you. So grateful you have this poor dog!
