Thoughtful piece on the worth hierarchy we've built around animals. The pedigree vs stray dichotomy mirrors how we value humans too, where institutional affiliation or documentation changes moral standing. I've volunteered at a rural shelter where funding cuts meant euthanasia became the default, and the staff would say things like "its just more efficent" without seeming to hear themselves. The point about vulnerability reducing worth is spot-on, and it extends beyond animals to how socieites treat any group that cant advocate for itself.
